The PAN 2.0 Project is an e-Governance initiative by the Income Tax Department aimed at transforming taxpayer registration services for a seamless, technology-driven experience. It focuses on re-engineering the processes for PAN (Permanent Account Number) and TAN (Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number) services to enhance efficiency and user experience.

About Permanent Account Number (PAN):

  • What is PAN?
    10-character alphanumeric identifier issued by the Income Tax Department. It can be applied for or allocated automatically by the department.

  • Purpose:
    PAN links all financial and tax-related activities of an individual or entity, including:

    • Tax payments
    • TDS/TCS credits
    • Filing of income tax returns
    • Specific high-value transactions
    • Official communications

The PAN 2.0 Project aims to modernize and simplify taxpayer services, ensuring a secure, efficient, and eco-friendly system while promoting the wider use of PAN as a central digital identifier.
