Tex-RAMPS: A Strategy for Data-Driven and Sustainable Textile Growth

Context

The Government of India has approved the Tex-RAMPS Scheme to enhance research capacities, innovation, data systems, and entrepreneurial development within the textiles sector.

Nature of the Scheme

Tex-RAMPS is a Central Sector Scheme developed to support research, assessment, monitoring, planning, and start-up growth in the textile ecosystem. It is fully funded and implemented by the Ministry of Textiles.

Aim of the Scheme

The scheme aims to future-proof India’s textile and apparel sector by promoting innovation, establishing robust data systems, enhancing institutional capabilities, and supporting textile-based entrepreneurship.

Research and Innovation Support

The scheme strengthens the national R and D framework through advanced research in smart textiles, sustainable practices, process optimization, and emerging textile technologies.

Data, Analytics and Diagnostics

It focuses on building strong data infrastructures, including employment mapping, supply chain analytics, and anthropometric datasets through initiatives like the India-Size project.

Integrated Textiles Statistical System

The ITSS platform enables real-time analytics, structured sector monitoring, and evidence-based policymaking for improved governance and targeted interventions.

Capacity Development Initiatives

Tex-RAMPS enhances State-level planning processes, encourages best-practice sharing, and supports workshops, training programs, and the creation of an extensive knowledge ecosystem.

Support for Start-ups and Innovation

The scheme provides financial assistance for incubators, hackathons, and academia–industry collaboration to promote innovation-driven entrepreneurship in the textiles sector.

Financial Structure

A total outlay of three hundred and five crore rupees has been allocated for the period 2025 to 2031, aligned with the next Finance Commission cycle to ensure long-term continuity.

The scheme aligns India’s textile sector with global trends in smart textiles, technical textiles, and green manufacturing, promoting sustainability and technological advancement.
